GeoCache: Game Goals

calendarI’m a total experience person. That sounds extreme, but I believe anything worth doing is worth doing well. That means if I try something, I immerse myself in it so I can appreciate the whole experience. That’s my attitude in life, career and entertainment. One such hobby that combines life, career and entertainment is geocaching. I started geocaching 22 days ago and enjoy it more now than when I started. Twenty-five caches later, I show no signs of boredom or game fatigue. Since I want to experience more of the game, I decided to set game goals.

GeoCache: First to Find!

chocoI can’t stop thinking about it. It absorbs my every thought. I dream about it. I talk about it incessantly. I want to do it every day. I plan my weekends around it too. You probably think I’m talking about a special celebration or occasion, but I’m not. I’m describing my addiction to geocaching. My family expressed concern about my geocaching hobby. They think I’m obsessed and will burn out if I don’t pace myself. Geocaching is so fun, I didn’t believe them. Then today, I received a notice about a new cache and despite weather, work and fatigue, I sprung into caching action.

GeoCache: Counting Firsts

firstsDo you remember moving into a new home and counting all the firsts? First movie, first dinner, first holiday, first guest. The newness offers a chance to appreciate the first time for everything in that new place. The same can be said about new activities. When you’re new at something every milestone is a first. Geocaching is our newest family activity. Since my last geocache article, we cached three more times. Four caching adventures doesn’t make us experts, but we’re learning fast. In the few short weeks since we began, we amassed several firsts.

GeoCache: My Stats

gamesI like playing games and I especially like winning the games I play. My newest and favorite game (which my family calls an addiction) is geocaching because it tests many of my skills — planning, persistence, endurance, attention to detail and data gathering. It’s a total mental and physical game experience. Other players call geocaching a sport, hobby, game or past-time. All descriptors accurately define this world-wide phenomenon, but when the scope is this broad, how do you win the game?
